UTM tags are small pieces of code that are added to URLs to track the source of traffic to your site. They consist of several parameters that define the source, medium, and campaign that brought the user to your site.
Why do we need UTM tags? They help to understand where your visitors are coming from, which traffic sources are most effective, and which campaigns bring the most conversions. This allows you to optimize your marketing strategy and increase the efficiency of your efforts.
UTM tags in social networks allow you to track which posts and stories attract more traffic to your site. For example, you can create unique UTM tags for each post on Instagram or Facebook and track how many users came to your site from each post. This helps identify the most effective content formats and optimize your social media strategy.
Postmypost is a social media management tool that allows you to generate and automatically add UTM tags to links in posts and stories. You can create unique UTM tags for each campaign and track their effectiveness in Google Analytics or other analytics tools. This simplifies the process of tracking and analyzing traffic on your site and helps optimize your marketing strategy.
For each social network or account in Postmypost, you can create a separate rule for creating such tags.
To add automatic UTM tags, go to the settings section of the desired project > the "UTM Tags" subsection > click "Create." In the window that opens, you can select which social network or account in the project will use UTM tags. Each UTM tag has 5 available parameters (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_content, utm_term).
You can manually enter any value into each part of the tag or use our variables, which will be automatically substituted.
{socialNetwork.name} — Name of the social network
{publication.id} — Publication ID
{publication.date="DD.MM.YYYY"} — Publication date in format (YYYY.MM.DD)
{rubric.name} — Name of the rubric
You can set any date format you require:
{publication.date="DD.MM.YYYY"} — Publication date in format (DD.MM.YYYY)
{publication.date="DD-MM-YYYY"} — Publication date in format (DD-MM-YYYY)
{publication.date="YYYY.MM.DD"} — Publication date in format (YYYY.MM.DD)
{publication.date="YYYY-MM-DD"} — Publication date in format (YYYY-MM-DD)
These variables are also described in the UTM tag creation window.
That is, if you insert any of these variables into the parameter value, an automated value will be substituted depending on the post.
For example, if you insert {socialNetwork.name} into the utm_source parameter and make a post on VK, the link will look like this:
http://postmypost.ru/?utm_source=Vkontakte
You can edit or delete UTM tags in the settings > "UTM Tags" and click on the pencil or trash can icon next to the label name. The changes you make will be applied to all scheduled posts.
If a post does not require adding UTM tags to the link, you can disable this when creating the post. To do this, in the window, click the settings icon (gear) and check the "Disable automatic UTM tags" box.
