What are joint posts on Instagram*? It is another way to share news and good vibes with friends, promote an account, and organize collaboration. How to create such a post and what should be considered? We will tell you about it.

What is a joint post on Instagram*

So, joint posts are a convenient tool that can be used in regular publications as well as in Reels. Such a post can contain text, photos, or videos—or all at once. When publishing a post, you indicate a co-author or co-authors, and after that, it appears in their accounts. Both the avatars and nicknames of the co-authors will be displayed together, and the statistics, likes, comments, and views will be counted from both (or more) accounts.

Why do you need a joint post on Instagram*

How can joint posts be used on Instagram*? There are many options, both for personal accounts aimed at friends and for bloggers and companies.

Publish a post on two of your accounts

Many bloggers and public figures have not one but two or more accounts. And some posts—such as year summaries or project completions—are desired to be placed in both accounts. You can specify them as co-authored—and the views of your personal achievements will skyrocket!

Share impressions with friends

Met friends in a cafe or went skiing together? Create a joint post and tell those who missed the meeting about it!

Share helpful expert advice

Advice from an expert is a great opportunity to attract new followers to your blog and the expert’s blog, of course, if they are listed as a co-author. So don’t hesitate to make joint posts with professionals in their field!

Advertising joint posts

Already have advertisers? Make a joint advertising post. Such cooperation will increase loyalty among followers for advertisers, and you can share information about promotions, discounts, and new product releases with your followers.

Professional cooperation

Such posts are popular among photographers and models, as well as people accompanying the photo session—stylists, makeup artists, hairdressers. In general, this is not advertising, but regular information about those who participated in the project. Professional shots will benefit each of them.

Joint giveaways

Are you conducting a giveaway with 1-2 sponsors? Mark them as co-authors of the post with the conditions of the giveaway and prize photos. Also, you can make separate joint posts with each of the sponsors.

Share cases and learning outcomes

An online school or course teacher can make a joint post with students. Thus, the teacher will get an advertising post, and the student will receive a case for their portfolio.

Challenge is here!

Every challenge once started with one or two posts. So why not make such a post in co-authorship? To do this, tag the user with whom you are launching the challenge and post the video in both profiles. This way, twice as many users will see it! Or you can tag the participant who challenged you as a co-author in Reels. By the way, don’t forget to set a common hashtag for the challenge.

Pros of a joint post on Instagram*

The most obvious advantage of joint posts is the ability to combine the audiences of two authors and thereby increase the reach of publication.

The second advantage is strengthening partnership relations between users and mutually beneficial cooperation. A joint post can be placed both in the news feeds of two friends—for example, with shared vacation photos—and among bloggers, influencers, and brands, which thereby attract more attention to their product or content.

The third undeniable advantage is that a post with an unusual presentation form will surely attract the attention of your audience due to the novelty effect. The main thing is that the same post doesn’t appear at the same time for 20 authors, or there will be no wow effect at all.

Another advantage is expanding the audience. Since a joint post is published in two or more accounts, it turns out that the authors “share” followers with each other. The audience grows, the coverage grows—and that’s why we create such posts!

Cons of a joint post on Instagram*

Of course, joint posts also have cons. For instance, before publication, it is worth agreeing on content so that it pleases both authors, matches the brand or image—and this process can be delayed.

Another downside is blurred boundaries of each participant, unfamiliar to users, stylistics, coloring, presentation form. Too many “atypical” posts reduce interest and trust among the audience: they start to be perceived as advertisements.

Among the shortcomings of joint posts is the impossibility of tracking the number of likes or comments received in the account of each author. Moreover, only the user who published it can manage the post—edit or delete it.

How to publish a joint post on Instagram*

Publishing a joint post on Instagram* is very simple—you can do it in just a few steps.

Step 1. Prepare the publication

In Instagram*, create a publication: prepare photos and videos, write text.

Step 2. Choose a co-author

Enter the co-author's name in the search bar. By the way, a co-author can be not only your follower but any user who is not in your friends list unless they have put a privacy setting that prevents anyone from tagging them.

Step 3. Publish!

The simplest step: once you finish setting up the publication, click "Next," then—"Share."

Step 4. Confirm publication.

The co-author will receive a notification asking to confirm the publication. Once they do, the post will be published for both of you.

If someone else decides to make you a co-author, you will also receive a notification. Click "view request," review the publication where you were made a co-author. Now you can accept or decline the request.

Step 4. What if you change your mind?

Sometimes, you want to change something in the published post. Unfortunately, if you are not the author of the joint post but a co-author, you cannot change the caption, geolocation, fix errors, or add photos—this is only available to the author.

But you can opt out of co-authorship at any time. To do this, open the publication, click on the icon with three dots, and select "Stop sharing." That’s it, you are no longer the author of the post!

Step 5. Post in Reels

The action algorithm will be the same here: prepare the post, mark people before publishing the video, and click "Invite co-author." The co-author confirms—or doesn’t confirm—co-authorship, and Reels appears in your accounts.

Even easier—with Postmypost

There is another simple way to publish a joint post on Instagram*. It’s the Postmypost service, which allows you to make scheduled publications, including joint posts.

For this, you need to log into your account on Postmypost and click the pencil icon on the photo when creating a post.

The second step is to go to social network objects, select the "Users" tag, enter the account, and check the "Co-authorship" box.

Now it remains only to specify the time when the post should be published. It can be the current time or a delayed publication.

Done! Now the post will appear both in your account and your co-author's account. Of course, once they confirm co-authorship.

So, joint posts on Instagram* are an interesting opportunity to diversify content, increase the audience and views, make new partners, or simply share something interesting with mutual friends. The main thing is to carefully think through the content of the post, its design, and, of course, be on the same page with the co-author.

Good and interesting projects!
