Only the headline and nothing more read eight out of ten people, and only two purposefully continue reading to learn the details. But the chances of reading and completing an article, post, or news increase rapidly if you write a bright and interesting headline. We explain how to do this.

Criteria for a Good Headline

The headline is the first thing a potential client sees, and it determines whether they will continue reading. Writing an effective headline in one and a half minutes is not an easy task, but it is quite solvable. Let's analyze how to do this.

Identify Your Audience

Before writing a headline, determine who you are addressing it to – that is, identify your target audience. The better you know them, the more accurately you can choose words that will attract attention.

Let's give an example. You are a mattress seller. If your target audience is young mothers, the headline might be: "10 Ways to Improve Your Child's Sleep." And if you are targeting workaholics, the headline might be "How to Get a Full Sleep in 4 Hours."

Use Numbers and Specificity

Numbers attract attention and give specificity to the headline. They help the reader understand what exactly they will get by reading your material. Use numbers 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, 15, 20, 100 – they are considered the most popular. But it's better not to use numbers from 30 to 100 in the headline: they subconsciously give the reader confidence in the dullness of the text.

You can use the headline formula "X Ways to Do Y." For example, "7 Effective Strategies to Increase Sales in an Online Store."

Solve a Problem or Offer a Benefit

People read articles to find solutions to their problems or get benefits. Make sure your headline clearly shows what benefit the reader will receive.

For example, "How to Save 20% on Online Shopping with a Secret Strategy."

Use Emotional Triggers

Emotions play an important role in decision-making. A headline that evokes emotions will be more appealing and motivate the reader to take action.

For example: "Don't Miss Out: How to Start Earning from Your Hobby Today."

Make the Headline Short and Concise

The ideal headline should be short so that it can be easily read and understood at a glance. Usually, this is 6-12 words.

For example: "Secrets of a Successful Business: Simple Steps to Prosperity."

Experiment and Analyze

Experiment, test different headlines to see which ones work best. Analyze the results and improve your headlines based on the obtained data. By the way, you can later share the results of experiments with the readers: "Testing 10 Headlines: Which Will Bring More Clicks?"

Arouse Curiosity

The headline should intrigue and create a desire to learn more. Play on everyone's natural desire to know "a little secret."

For example: "What Are Successful Entrepreneurs Hiding? Find Out Now."

Use Keywords

Include keywords in the headline that your audience is searching for. This will not only attract attention to the article or post but also help in SEO.

For example: "SEO for Beginners: How to Get a Site to the Top in a Month."

How to Create a Headline Using a Neural Network

Choose the appropriate neural network: to create headlines, you can use a tool such as Postmypost AI. To do this, log into your account on the social media management service, select the dialogue box (the icon is located in the lower right corner of the screen).

Enter key data: provide the neural network with the topic of your material, target audience, keywords, and desired tone of the headline.

Get headline options: the neural network will generate several headline options. Choose the most suitable one or use several suggestions to create an optimal headline.

Let's give an example. For the Postmypost neural network, we made the following request: "Create 20 selling headlines for an article on how to increase site conversion. Target audience – small business owners, tone – professional, length – up to 10 words."

The neural network produced the result in just 5 seconds. You can choose one of the suggested headlines or ask for a few more. Or, inspired by the neural network's ideas, write your unique headline.

Formulas for Creating Headlines

Another option for creating attractive headlines is to use ready-made and time-tested formulas. Here are some of them:

The 4U Formula

  • Unique: the headline must be unique.
  • Useful: the headline must be useful to the reader.
  • Urgent: the headline must convey a sense of urgency.
  • Ultra-specific: the headline must be as specific as possible.

Example: "Unique Weight Loss Method: Lose 5 kg in 7 Days."

The AIDA Formula

  • Attention: attract the reader's attention.
  • Interest: retain interest by describing the benefits.
  • Desire: create the desire to learn more.
  • Action: motivate to take action.

Example: "Want to Improve Your Financial Situation? Learn How to Double Your Income."

The PAS Formula

Problem: identify the problem.

Agitate: evoke emotions.

Solve: offer a solution to the problem.

Example: "Finding and Communicating on Telegram Made Easier: Find Out How!"

Conclusion

Creating a catchy headline in one and a half minutes is quite possible if you follow a clear algorithm and use proven techniques. Always keep your audience in mind, use numbers, offer solutions, evoke emotions, and make the headlines short and specific. And if your personal muse doesn’t want to be creative, refer to the neural network: it will generate a hundred catchy headlines in one and a half minutes.
